Week 6 Vocabulary Synonyms, Images, and Sentences


Verify - Whenever you are absent, Julianna calls your mommies and daddies to verify your absence and make sure you are actually sick and not just skipping school!

Sequence - Your personal narratives should follow a logical sequence of your story - the "before" you, the story that changed you, and the "after" version of you.

Simplify - You should try to simplify your life by simply listening to your teacher sometimes!

because of how the economy sucks, leading them to finacial problems and then leading to divorce.

9 out of 10 boys in detention have some level of gang affiliation

70% of girls in jail report having been sexually abused or victimized as children

It’s a dead end in MS-13

Introducion- MS 13 4 gang members almost got away with murderer.

One Way Ride -
MS - 13 members shoot one of their members because they thought he was a snitch.

Life is Cheap - what this article is basically saying that these MS- 13 members usually live with their parents .

A deadly dis - they beat one of their own, thats what MS - 13 does when they disrepect someone really bad.

No way out - basically if you join MS there is no way out besides jail, or death.

the gang population estimate is up to 200,000 since 2005.

2. In how many states is MS13 active?
MS13 is fierce in 10 states.

3. Summarize gang activity in Omaha, Nashville, and Maryland.
the police couldn't stop them, it only made them stronger. in 2005, MS13 members pleaded guilty on chargers charging on murder and on one of the largest gun bust.

Mara Savlvatrucha is a transnational criminal gang that orginated in LA, and expanded throughout United States,Canada,Mexico, and Central America.

Salvatrucha? because they would send them back to MS hometown

they sometimes tax people for protection or if there was a stand in one of MS 13 territory they would have to pay.

2. There are many reasons to reduce, reuse, and recycle. These reasons are:
**Saving Space

Problems with Landfills

1) What are bottom liners?
Bottom liners are layers of clay that effectively creates a bathub in the ground.

a) Clay - Natural Clay is often cracked and fractured.

b) Plastic - The very best landfill liners today are made of a tough plastic film called high density polyethylene (HDPE).

c) Composite - A Composite liner is a single liner made of two parts, a plastic liner and compacted soil

3) What is a leachate collection system? Explain one problems with this system.
- If leachate collection pipes clog up and leachate remains in the landfill, fluids can build up in the  fluids can build up in the bathtub

4) What is a cover? Explain one problem with using a cover.
- A cover or cap is an umbrella over the landfill to keep water out

1. What is Jardim Gramacho? Where is it located?
Jardim Gramacho Gardens is located in the north edge of Rio de Janeiro's Guanabara Bay.

2. What are catadores? What has their contribution to Jardim Gramacho been?
These catadores lived and worked in the garbage, collecting and selling scrap metal and recyclable materials. They established a squatter community (the favela of Jardim Gramacho) surrounding the landfill,

3. How many catadores live in Jardim Gramacho?
Today roughly 3,000 catadores work on the landfill.
although only 1,752 are officially registered) removing 200 tons of recyclable materials each day

4. How has the catadores job been formalized by the government? When does it end? What effect could this have?
